An engine company at the corner of Yates and Johnson Streets, early 1860s. 
    Pumpers were too small to carry their own hose and so it was transported to 
    a fire in this manner. It was necessary to have the hose arrive at the same 
    time as the pumpers and the large wheels made it easier to go quickly over 
    uneven road surfaces.
