The
Charles E. Redfern is shown at full gallop along Government Street
on May Day 1910. With the exception of the Redfern which soon went
into reserve, Victoria's steam pumpers were modernized by removing horse draft
gear and the front wheels, and then adding a 1912 Seagrave Type D tractor.
It worked well for several years and postponed the departure of steam from
    the VFD.
