This
American LaFrance Double Combination was one of the last horse drawn rigs
purchased for the VFD. Even when this apparatus was taken on strength, it
was known that motorization was not far off. It was equipped with two chemical
tanks, carbolic hose and 1200 feet of canvas hose to serve a steam pumper.
A chemical engine was intended to be a 'first response' unit, or to serve
    areas without hydrants.
